Material Sourcing Practices

We procure materials as close to the source as possible. This is why at Goebel & Co., we purchase nearly 95% of raw material/wood in log form. By doing so we have the ability to specify the manner in which the logs are processed (milled and dried). We take pride in selecting our logs from zero de-forestation sources, mainly storm damage, and construction related clearing of land. Our furniture is constructed exclusively out of the finest grade North American Hardwoods.

Our main species are Cherry, Walnut and Siberian Elm; however, some other species such as White Oak and Ash are used as well. Cherry and Walnut are widely known as American classics. Siberian Elm was originally cultivated in the 1950's after Dutch Elm disease devastated native Elm populations. It is a little known, invasive species that yields beautiful blonde wood (see the Hamlet Cabinet and Isabella Table).

Much of our sourcing methodology is possible as a result of our geographic location — Missouri is truly the American heartland in name and timber as well. Our network of saw mills and independent sawyers keeps our racks well stocked for all creation needs.
